♥the burning time of the year (Sunday, August 02, 2009 / 12:35 am)
Spent the Saturday with the fellow ex-seniors and the girls
Attended the juniors' campfire which was themed
Horror. Stationed upstairs for the gateway with Andreas & PW to drop the dolls down. It kinda brought back some memories of how May, Andreas, Sanah and I used to squeeze creative juices out of us whenever we planned nightwalks, the voodoo-looking dolls that dropped down from the stairs but straight into the girls' faces, the wriggling worms,
'the old man' in the hall sitting behind flying towels and the spirit that was singing at the back of the stage. (back at the old campus)
And I bet, those girls who attended our camps between 2002-2005 must be cursing us like hell because we always scared the wits out of them and we made them do ridiculous things like finding clues in the midst of wriggling worms.
Actually, yesterday, it was quite an innovative way to come up another type of gateway since they didn't have the scouts to set up the standard one this year. Good effort seen but a pity that the sky and the place weren't dark enough to create a strong scary effect and there was a lack of some scary music to accompany and augment the atmosphere. Like the sort of music that Ms Yee always had lent us for a couple of nightwalk sessions. Sound effects are important, I guess.
Anyway, for the gateway, spent all the time, sitting at the 3rd floor, chatting with PW, Andreas and May and occasionally dropping the string down to lower the doll when the guests came. Din noe much about what was happening downstairs until someone informed that it was time to go to the hall.
The turnout rate was fantastic, I shld say. And most of them were enthusiastic bunch of people especially the Catholic High Scouts beside us. Daring and despo, an old trait of their 'ancestor' scouts arh. But, it was quite disappointing that the invited guests of honour were not supportive of the campfire. Can't even take some time to grace the campfire. Girl Guides in MF now, is really not receiving some recognition frm the Ps and big shots in school, I guess. During our time, luckily we always had garang and thick-skinned people who would walk into the Principal's office to persuade and confirm their attendance to grace the ceremony. Maybe, we were really insane that time.
So, in the end, the VIPs seats were miserably empty and well, the guides alumni sat there to occupy the space. But, some cheeky fellow commented that we were like sitting at the seats meant for 七月歌台的好兄弟,so we shldn't sit at the first row. I dunno whether to get angry for that insulting remark or laugh because it was truly a fact.
On the whole, I think it was a good effort from the girls especially that they have no proper guidance from their direct seniors and there were manpower constraints. It would have been equally difficult for my batch to organize a large scale event too if we only have that limited manpower. Because we were really seriously over-comfortable with at least 40-60 guides helping out whenever we organized big events and because of that, we dared to be very ambitious, competitive and strong.
And one thing, quite commendable, the girls understood that they were shortage of manpower, so everyone really helped and most of the ex-seniors agreed that this was the time that we finally sensed some unity or the spirit of 'I'm a MF-girl guide' within them. Thumbs up for that and we really hope that though being small, they will continue to stick and grow together as one.
One more skill they should consider mastering is probably the art of asking people for help to lighten their workload. I guess, some ex-seniors were loitering around and were waiting for someone to have guts to request for help, but there were none. This happened during Minds Camp striking tents, Training Camp and Campfire as well.
Ha...either the girls were too paiseh to do it or we were too fierce to be near to. But hor, please ask the correct ex-senior lah, coz have to admit some arh might not be that helpful.
Well, super-duper long entry. And here are some photos.......

the spider was getting alot of our attention. i personally think it's quite well done. They should have more of it...
